The most interesting (to me) story this afternoon comes from Cranky Flier: American Airlines has a new software tool that can, under specific circumstances, reduce weather-related cancellations by 80% and missed connections by 60%. Nice.
In other news:
- American pharmacies have wasted 82 million (11%) of the 900 million or so Covid-19 vaccine doses we've produced since December 2020—a number that the World Health Organization sees as completely normal for a mass-vaccination campaign.
- Progressives complain about the Democratic Party's "messaging" difficulties, forgetting that it's a lot easier for the Republicans to tear down our system than it is for us to keep it running.
- Josh Marshall suggests how the Party could win in November with some clear messaging on a Federal abortion law.
- As sometimes happens in one-party jurisdictions, Democrats in San Francisco have split between their progressive and liberal wings over homelessness and crime.
- Three Tempe, Ariz., cops stood by and watched a homeless man drown, which at least has led to them being suspended without pay pending an investigation.
And finally, as Lake Michigan water levels decline from their record levels in 2020, the receding water has exposed all the work the city and state need to do to repair our beaches.
